Lovdahl, Harold M.
Harold, age 91, of Appleton, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 7, 1917, in Iola, son of the late Morten and Clara (Gunderson) Lovdahl. He married Mary Keller June 26, 1948, sharing 58 years together before her death December 13, 2006. He was employed by Lawrence University for 37 years until he retired in 1983.
Harold was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was very involved in the Sons of Norway Lodge #491. He served in the Navy during WW II. Camping, hiking, cross country skiing and sailing were but a few of the outdoor activities he enjoyed. He delighted in learning new things and even took up sailboarding as a senior citizen.
Retirement allowed Harold time to travel with Mary to places all over the world. Always active, he earned many sports medals through Sons of Norway, canoed the Boundary Waters and hiked the Appalachian Trail. We loved him for his love of family, friends, nature and his endearing smile.
He is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Rev. Gerald Devereux, Great Falls, MT; Karen and Corvin Kuklinski, Boise, ID; 3 grandchildren: Sarah (Joe) Murphy; Theresa (Ben) Bruening; KariAnna Kuklinski; and 3 great grandchildren: Micah, Elizabeth and Aleyna. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen St., with Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
We would like to thank the staff at Fox River Assisted Living, Grand Horizons Assisted Living and SouthernCare Hospice for their loving care of Dad. Thank you also to the many faithful friends whose visits brightened Dad’s days. We are grateful to all of you.
