Balliet, Owen F.
“Dooley”

Owen age 78 of Appleton, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones at his home, Thursday, February 5, 2009. He was born February 16, 1930 in Appleton son of the late James and Edna (Mackin) Balliet. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1948. He then attended the University of Marquette and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Owen owned and operated his own insurance agency for over 30 years.

Dooley was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. During his high school days he was served on the student council; a member of Badger Boys State; played half back in football and guard in basketball on West’s championship teams of 1947 and 1948. He was a member of the Appleton Fox Cities Foxes; Appleton Elks and Appleton Noon Lions Club. He served in the Army from 1951 until 1953.

Dooley enjoyed golfing and watching sports of all kinds. He loved going to the family cottage in northern Wisconsin and spent many happy hours there with his family and friends.

Owen is survived by a son: Michael Balliet of Florida; a sister Carolyn “Rusty” Balliet, Mammoth Lakes, California; special friend and care taker: Peggy Ebben and her 3 sons, Tom, Jon and Chris Delzer; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Jeanne Sindt and Nancy O’Conner; 2 brothers: Charles and William.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 AM Monday February 9, 2009 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Camp, 8525 County Rd. D, Lake Tomahawk, WI, 54539.

The family would like to express a special thank you to city nurse Tina for the wonderful care she provided for Dooley.
