“Mendy”
Mendy age 92 of Appleton passed away Friday, January 23, 2009, at his home.
He was born January 16, l917, in Appleton, son of the late Aaron and Jane (Magin) Zussman. He graduated from Appleton West High School. He owned and operated Zussman’s Grocery until he retired in 1983.
Mendy was member of Moses Montefiore Synagogue; O.D.D. Fellows Lodge #347 and the Appleton Bowling Hall of Fame. He was named an Honored Citizen of Appleton because he never missed a chance to vote. He spent many hours at the cottage and fishing on Lake Winnebago and always enjoyed watching or listening to sports. Mendy served in the Army during WW II.
Mendy is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Dan and Sylvia Zussman, Northbrook, IL and Jerry and Frances Zussman, Milwaukee and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his loving extended family: Sharon Wichman; Randy (Char) Hanson; Terri (Jeff) Miller; Dave (Jill) Hanson; Debra Hanson; Rick Hanson; Jason (Stacey) Hanson); Bobbi (John) Hicken; Scott (Jill) Hanson; Jenni (John) Thurlow; Chad Miller and Katie Miller. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Deena Cohen; Mamie Muchin and Temy Zussman; 2 brothers: John and Sam Zussman and life long friends: Bill and Lucille Hanson.
Services will be held 1 PM Monday, January 26, 2009 at Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Cantor Jeffrey Conn officiating. Burial will take place at Moses Montefiore Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Chapel on Monday from 12 noon until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
