WHAT CREMATION IS

The practice of cremation dates back to ancient times.  If you are thinking about cremation, you may want to know more about the process and the many services available to you.  Cremation is a simple process of reducing the body to bone fragments by intense heat.  The skeletal fragments are then processed into smaller pieces called cremains.  The cremated remains of an average adult weigh from three to seven pounds.  They are then placed in a small cardboard box or other temporary container until the decision for final disposition is decided.  Cremains may be buried in the ground, entombed in a mausoleum, scattered or kept by a family member or members.  Cremation is an alternative to ground burial, and consideration should be given to the type of services that one would like to have in celebration of the life lived.
