| | | Virgil Edward Carr, 92, Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri. Virgil was born February 22, 1917 on the family farm south of Savannah. He was a graduate of Savannah High School. Virgil served in the US Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific aboard the USS Miami. Virgil married Ruby Mitchell on April 8, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas. He retired from Swift & Co. in 1982 after 34 years of service. Virgil was a member and on the board of the Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. Virgil lived his entire life in the Savannah area. His mother, Nancy Elizabeth Gibbins-Carr; grandparents, Edward and Sarah Gibbins; brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Bernice Carr; brothers-in-law, Clarence “Pat”; Howard and Laverne Mitchell; and 2 granddaughters; preceded Virgil in death. Survivors: wife, Ruby, of the home; sons, Larry Carr and wife, Patricia, Savannah, Missouri; Gerald Carr; Boynton Beach, Florida; Joseph Carr and wife, Tamala, St. Joseph; daughter, Nancy Lillard and husband, Rodney, Savannah, Missouri; brother-in-law, Henry Mitchell and wife, Ruth; sister-in-law, Retha Mitchell-Bonham; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life: 10:30 AM Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah. Interment at Savannah, Missouri Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday. The family suggests memorials to the Presbyterian Church, Savannah, Missouri.
