| Vera Leola (O’Dell) Pixler Miller, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed from this life on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Shepherd’s Personal Care, St. Joseph. She was born June 17, 1918 in Hardin, Missouri to Joshua and Mary Ann ((Graham) O’Dell. Vera was a graduate of Lafayette High School. Vera was married to Vernon Miller on July 30, 1965 in St. Joseph and he preceded her in death on February 2, 2001. She worked in Food Service at the former St. Joseph State Hospital. Vera was a member of Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was very active in scouts and Webster School PTA. Vera was a very loving mother and grandmother. Vera was also preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Frank Pixler; brothers, Eugene, Albert, Cleo, Calvin and Clarence O’Dell; sisters, Lena Sportsman, Erma Clarkson, Ida Jones, and an infant sister; 2 grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Pixler. Survivors: sons and daughters-in law, Frank and Fern Pixler, Clarence and Doris Pixler, all of St. Joseph; Charles and Patricia Pixler, Bakersfield, California; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Lanny Jones, St. Joseph, Delores and Bill Brigman, Newport, N.C.; a sister, Mary Justice, Hemit, CA; 15 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her FAT CAT, “JAMIE”. Celebration of Life: 11 AM Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Gladden-Stamey Chapel, St. Joseph. Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours 10 to 11 AM Thursday.
