1920-2009
William Arthur “Pete” June, 88, Savannah, Missouri, passed from this life on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Heartland Hospital. He was born in Bolckow, Missouri on October 16, 1920 to Fred and Mary Louise (Craig) June. Pete married Margaret (Dunham) George on August 14, 1953 at St. Joseph, Missouri, she survives of the home. Pete graduated from Graham High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from July 8, 1942 to December 6, 1946 when he was honorabley discharged. During WWII he drove a truck for the Red Ball Express in Europe. Pete served for 2 years as president of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association in Andrew County. He retired from driving a truck with Consolidated Freightway in 1979. He also retired from raising cattle and hay farming in 2007. Pete loved to go camping, fishing and spending his winters in South Texas for the last 25 years. He was well known for his “cream can dinners” in the Palm Shadows RV Park in Donna, Texas. Pete was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grand-father. He was very proud of his family. Pete is survived by his bride, Margaret, of 56 years which they celebrated prior to his passing on August 14, 2009; his children, Louise June Jones, Kansas City North, Missouri; Marie and Dan Madinger, St. Joseph, MO; Ronald Allen George, Pleasant Valley, MO and Richard Craig June, Savannah, MO; 5 grandchildren, Daniel Carl Madinger, Lori Marie (Jones) Bell, Ann Marie (Madinger) Wardlow, Shane William George, Jamey Michael George; 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Wayne and Dale June; and his stepmother that raised him from age four, Mildred Grace Rogers June. Celebration of Life: 10 AM Monday, August 17, 2009 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 18681 Hwy 59 (I-29 & Hwy 71). Public viewing and family receiving hours 4-6 PM Sunday at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Mr. June will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or St. Joseph Animal Shelter in honor of that “cute little black dog”, Sadie. One of many that he loved.
