Virginia O. Hower
1923 – 2009

Virginia Olive (Worthington) Hower, 85, Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Nye Court Independent Living Facility in Fremont, Nebraska. Virginia was born October 5, 1923 to Loyal and Nellie (Whitson) Worthington in Whitesville, Missouri. She was a graduate of King City High School Class of 1941. Virginia married Lloyd John Hower on September 5, 1945 in Savannah, Missouri. They were married for 44 years. They had one daughter, Barbara Kay (Hower) Tellatin of Fremont, Nebraska. Virginia worked at the Department of Agriculture for 38 years. She retired in 1988. Virginia was a 56-year member of the Savannah Chapter 223, Order of Eastern Star. During this time she was District Deputy Grand Matron in 1970, and was the Missouri Grand Representative to the State of New York from 1974 to 1976. Virginia and Lloyd were Matron and Patron in 1967, and Virginia also served as secretary of Chapter 223 for over 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Savannah. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd J. Hower on July 18, 1989; her parents; and a brother, James Worthington. Survivors: daughter, Barbara Kay (Hower) Tellatin and husband, Stephen F. Tellatin; granddaughter, Heather Ann (Tellatin) Gossett and husband, F.A. Gossett IV “Chip”; and great grandchildren, Avery Ann Gossett and F.A. Gossett V “Quinn”; all of Fremont, Nebraska. Celebration of Life: 2:00 PM Friday, May 22, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 500 E. Pawnee, Savannah, Missouri. Interment at Savannah, Missouri Cemetery. Order of Eastern Star Service will be 6:00 PM Thursday at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah. Public viewing and family receiving hours will follow the O.E.S. Service until 8 PM. The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation.
