1925-2009
Charles Eugene Proffit, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri passed from this life on Saturday, April 11, 2009 in his home. He was born October 12, 1925 in Fillmore, Missouri to Lloyd and Ermil (Hatcher) Proffit. Charles served with the U.S. Army during WW II and was stationed in Germany. Charles married N. Jeannine (Ruddell) on December 6, 1947 in Savannah, Missouri and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2005. His parents, an infant daughter, Marilyn Louise Proffit, a son, Roger Proffit, a brother and sister also preceded him in death. Charles was a garage superintendent for Rainbow Bread for 32 years. He was a member of Mitchell Park Christian Church; Masonic Charity Lodge #331 and 32degree Scottish Rite Mason. Charles was a very active member with the St. Joseph Saints/Blacksnakes. He was a very caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Charla and Steve Koozer, Chattanooga, TN; Janna and Larry Smith, St. Joseph; brother, Dean Proffit, sister LaVeta Mollus, both of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Brian Koozer, Brenda Lanning, Stacey Helfery, Ryan Smith and Darin Proffit; 5 great grandchildren. Celebration of Life: 1:30 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Chapel, Savannah, Missouri. Interment with full military honors in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours 6-8 PM Monday. Memorial donations are requested to Hands of Hope Hospice.
