Ernest “Wayne” Gerber, 80, Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. He was born on March 11, 1928 at Amazonia, Missouri to the late Ernest and Edna (Kurz) Gerber. Wayne served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was in the 5th. Regimen Combat Team with 555th. Field Artillery. He earned a degree in Agriculture and a master’s degree in education from University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. Wayne married Maxine (Whitwell) on June 10, 1951 in Doniphan, Missouri. He was a member and served as an elder at First Christian Church, Savannah, MO; a member of VFW; American Legion Dick Munkres Post #287 and the Amazonia Lions Club. Wayne was an Andrew county commissioner; stockman and farmer; a vocational agricultural teacher; an on the farm trainer for veterans; and an extension agent. Survivors: his wife, Maxine Gerber, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Vicki Gerber, Belton, MO; David and Gail Gerber, Tucson, AZ; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Terry Wolfe, South Port, England; Janet and Greg Gremaud, Kirksville, MO; Lynn and Dwight Griffin, Trenton, MO; twin sisters, June Bockelman, Prairie Village, Kansas and Jo Ann Davis, Harleysville, PA; ten grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 3 nephews. Celebration of Life: 10:30 AM Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Mo. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Amazonia, MO. Public viewing and family receiving hours 6-8 PM Friday. Memorial donations can be made to Savannah First Christian Church, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
