1924-2008
Mildred A. (Swenson) Clardy, 83, formerly of Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Friday, June 13, 2008 at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri. Mildred was born September 22, 1924 in Savannah, Missouri to William O. and Evelyn (Cole) Swenson. She married Marion “Sonny” Clardy on January 20, 1946 at Savannah. She and Sonny owned and operated stores in Savannah, Mound City, Rock Port, Tarkio, Maryville and Clarinda between 1947 and 1975. Upon graduation from Savannah High School in 1942, she attended Platt Secretarial School in St. Joseph. Mildred was secretary to the officers of The Tootle-Lacy National Bank in St. Joseph. She was active at the local and state levels with The Order of the Rainbow for Girls and The Grand Cross of Color, sponsored by the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a member. Upon moving to St. Joseph in 1975, Mildred obtained her real estate sales license and was a secretary for Whitson Realty. In 1977, she was employed by Platt College and retired in 1994 while she was secretary to the President of Northwest Missouri Community College, formerly Platt Junior College. Mildred was a member of Savannah United Methodist Church. Her parents, husband and a son, Michael Wayne Clardy and a sister, Mariella Manville preceded Mildred in death. Survivors: Mark D. Clardy, Overland Park, Kansas; sisters, Mertis K. Moore and Helen V. Crawford and husband, James, all of Savannah; grandchildren, Michael Clardy and wife, Amy; Matthew Clardy and wife, Nicole; Kris Peterson and husband, R.J.; great grandchild, Mattix Clardy; and several nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life: 1:00 PM Monday, June 16, 2008 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Interment at Savannah Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours: 4 – 6 PM Sunday. Memorial donations to Moila Shriners Transportation Fund or Savannah United Methodist Church.
