Edgar E. Nigg age 80 of Jasper died at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (March 1, 2007) in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born at Dubois, Indiana on March 17, 1926 to David and Katherine (Kalb) Nigg, married Lovella Wening on August 9, 1949 in St. Paul Lutheran, Haysville, IN

Edgar Nigg a WWII Army Veteran owned and operated the Nigg Super Market and was Postmaster of the Post Office in Haysville and the recipient of the Govenor’s Sagimore of the Wabash Award.

He was one of the original founders of the Haysville Fire Department, he was appointed Fire Chief in November 1961.. He served as Chief from November 1961 until January 30, 1982 when he retired. He helped organize the 18th District Volunteer Fireman Association which now consists of 35 departments; he served as District Chairman for 2 years and District Chaplin for 4 years. In 1967 he was appointed as Public Relations Director of the Southwest District #18 of Indiana. On June 12, 1970 he earned the highest award for a Volunteer Fireman in State of Indiana’s named the Fireman of the Year at the state convention in 1970.
In 1991 Edgar and his wife were named Grand Marshallof the Parade for the 175th birthday of Haysville.
He was instrumental in bringing a bank, a postal sub-station and the water department to the town of Haysville. Served on the Lutheran Community Action Board responsible doing Chaplaincy work at Evansville State Hospital also served 2 terms on the Dubois County Bank Advisory Board.
He currently is serving on the Board of Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasper and the Dubois County Council on Aging and is Treasurer and Chairman of the Veterans Memorial for St. Paul Lutheran Church in Haysville.
Served as Precinct Chairman of Harbison Township #1 for many years.

He is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Haysville where he served on various committee of his church where he served as president and Treasurer if his church – Haysville Ruritan Club member for over 40 years holding various offices. Also member of the V.F.W. Post # 673 and the American Legion Post # 147 in Jasper.

Preceding him in death are 5 brothers, Martin, Elmer, Henry, Leander and Philmore Nigg and 1 sister, Evelyn Goller.

Funeral services for Edgar Nigg will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (March 4, 2007) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Haysville with burial to follow in St. Paul Cemetery. The Rev. Dwayne Daehler will officiate. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct Military Grave Side Rites.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at church.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday by the Haysville Ruritan Club and at 7:00 p.m. Saturday District #18 Indiana Volunteer Fireman Association Memorial Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund or to St. Paul Memorial Fund of St. Paul.
