Othmar W. “Oddie” Schmitt age 89 of Jasper died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday (April 17, 2005) in
the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born in Jasper on November 14, 1915 to John and Mary Elizabeth (Otto) Schmitt.
He married to Mary Frances Sermersheim on November 15, 1938, she preceded him in
death on August 30, 1992.
Othmar Schmitt retired from the former Jasper Corporation, a division of Kimball
International where he had worked for 31 years.
He served on the steering committee for Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for
their building Capital Campaign in 1971.
He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church Choir for 68 years - the Holy Name Society. Jasper Knight of Columbus.
Surviving are 3 daughters;

Patty Kiefer, all of Jasper, IN
1 son, Paul Schmitt and spouse Sharon, Vevay, IN
1 daughter-in-law, Doris Schmitt, Jasper, IN
13 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren

Frances Lents and
Alma Schmitt both of Jasper, IN
Preceding him in death besides his wife are;1 daughter, Laura Schmitt and 2 sons, John and
Charles Schmitt. 6 brothers, Hubert, Robert, Lawrence, Raymond, John and Walter Schmitt.
Funeral services for Othmar Schmitt will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (April 20, 2005)
in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from noon - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher - Kluesner Downtown Chapel in
Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church Choir or to the Skilled Care Unit
of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
