Walter J. Sherman, age 80, of Jasper passed away at 5:04 p.m. Sunday (April 3,2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born in Jasper on August 18, 1930 to Leo and Catherine (Schilling) Sherman.
He married Dorothy Leisman on June 27, 1953 at St. Anthony, Indiana – 57 years of marriage.
Walter retired from Schmidt Contacting Inc. where he had worked for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years, Holy Name Society, Jasper Knight of Columbus and the American Legion Post # 147.
Walter enjoyed gardening and working in his lawn.

Two sisters, Ruth Sherman and
Marie Peters both of Jasper, IN
Preceding him in death is one brother, Leroy Sherman and one sister Leona Sherman.
Funeral services for Walter Sherman will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (April 7, 2011) in St. Joseph Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. American Legion Post # 147 will conduct military grave side rites.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday (April 6, 2011) at the Becher & Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
Combined Rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday by members of St. Joseph Parish, Holy Name Society and the Knight of Columbus.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
