Dateline Jasper:

Martina C. Eckert age 93 of Jasper passed away at 5:43 P.M. Thursday January 20, 2011 at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community. She was born June 15, 1917 at Ireland to: and Herman And Barbara (Fleck) Wehr. She married Claude A. Eckert November 5, 1940. May 23, 2001.

Memberships include: St. Joseph Catholic Church, D of I Sodality, St. Anns Society, life member of VFW Post 673 Aux., DAV 77 Chapter Aux., Ireland Historical Society, Charter member of the German Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation Club, and Indiana German Heritage Society.

She was a coordinator for the St. Joseph Prayer Line, and an avid quilter.
She was an Avon Rep. for 38 years
She was Grand Marshal for the 1999 Jasper Strassenfest.
She was a recipient of the American German Heritage Award in 2000.

Surviving: 2 sons-Ken Eckert of Louisville, and Dr. Stan R. Eckert of Austin TX.
Daughters-Mrs. Mike (JoAnn) McGuffey of Jasper, Mrs. Art (Irene) Kapp of Ireland, and Mrs. Mike (Brenda) Jenkins of Jasper.
1 Brother-Fred “Fritz” Wehr of Zephyr Hills FL.
10 Grandchildren
10 Great Grandchildren

Preceded in death besides her husband are 8 brothers-Raymond, Edward, Anthony Clarence, and Leonard Wehr, 2 half brothers-Hilbert and Lawrence Wehr, 2 brothers who died in infancy, 5 sisters-Lucille Burger, Agnes Burger, Marie Rohleder, Lee Etta Vollmer, and Theresa Messmer.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a Rosary at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home by St. Joseph Parish, D of I Sodality, and St. Anns Society.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday January 24, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
