Felix O. Mundy, age 90 of Ireland died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday (December 5, 2010) at the Eastgate Nursing & Residence Center in Washington, Indiana.

He was born at Ireland, Indiana on March 26, 1920 to Henry and Anna (Kunkel) Mundy.
He married Marcella B. “Sally” (Gerner) Mundy on June 1, 1946, she preceded him in death on April 14, 2009.

Felix Mundy was a veteran of WWII, serving in the infantry. He fought in five major invasions from Africa to Normandy, where he was seriously wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. With his brothers Ben and Carl, he founded Mundy Brothers Implement Sales, A. J.I. Case dealership, in the early 1950’s. He was a lifetime member of the Ireland (Madison/Boone Township) community and St. Mary’s Church where he was past president of the parish’s St. Vincent DePaul Society and member of the church choir. Instrumental in establishing the local water utility for all households, schools, and businesses as well as for fire protection, and an eventual municipal sewer system, he served on the water utility board for many years. As a charter member of the Madison Township volunteer fire department, he was elected Assistant Fire Chief. He served as Madison Township Democratic precinct Committeeman, county Councilman, and ten years as Dubois County Assessor. An avid gardener, he especially took pride in his ferns, orchids, and the gourds from which he artistically crafted a variety of whimsical characters. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and in 2002was inducted into the Brute’ Society with his wife Sally.

Preceding him in death besides his wife - infant son Terry Mundy. 4 brothers, Romuald, Joseph, Ben and Carl Mundy; 3 step-brothers, Anthony, Henry and Edward Heim and 2 step sisters, Mary Metzger and Lucille Buschkoetter.

Funeral services for Felix Mundy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (December 10, 2010) in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ireland. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday (December 9, 2010) at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ireland Volunteer Fire Department or to the Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Indiana Chapter . Memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday by the IN Dist # 18 Volunteer Firefighters Associaton and the Ireland Fire Department at the funeral home.
