Dateline Jasper:

Joan Riffel age 78 of Jasper passed away at 3:30 P.M. Monday April 21, 2008 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born November 28, 1929 at Burlington Iowa to: Richard and Rose (Whalen) Herzog. She married Francis R.“Jim” Riffel June 27, 1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington Iowa.

Memberships include;St. Joseph Catholic Church the St. Anns Society, and Jasper Memorial Hospital Aux.

She worked at Iowa Southern Utilities Co. in Burlington and at Buehlers IGA in Jasper.
She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Catholic Church and at Jasper Memorial Hospital for many years. She bowled in the Tuesday Morning Ladies League. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and doing counted cross stitch .

Surviving: her husband Jim Riffel of Jasper.
5 daughters-Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Bartley of Jasper., Patricia Joan Riffel of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Mrs. Kerry (Kristine Marie) Jochim of Jasper, Mrs. Robert (Karen Frances) Grewe of Jasper, and Beth Ann Riffel of Jasper.

Preceded in death by 1 brother-Richard Herzog

Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a Rosary by St. Joseph Parish and the St. Anns Society at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Thursday April 24, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic church in Jasper with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jasper Memorial Hospital Auxilliary or the American Cancer Society
