Chapman Funeral Home had its humble beginnings in Winfield, WV in 1959. John W. Chapman, Jr. first placed his own shingle in a small two-story home and lived upstairs with his wife, Jennie Margaret and two sons, John W., III and Thomas. John, Jr. built his reputation as a meticulous funeral director and friend to the community by attending to even the smallest details of funeral service and offering the finest of personal service to the families of the surrounding communities. He also provided the county with ambulance service and served his fellow colleagues as a member of the West Virginia Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. In 1965, John had the foresight to open a second location in the Teays Valley area of Putnam County. John W. Chapman, III and his wife, Debra continue this fine tradition of quality and personal service.
Under their direction, a new facility was built at 3624 Winfield Road in Winfield and offers larger and more spacious facilities for our friends and neighbors in Winfield and the surrounding communities of Fraziers Bottom, Pliny, Eleanor and Red House. September 12, 2004, we introduced this facility to the community along with our new video tribute technology. Tours, along with refreshments, were available and a dedication ceremony was held. We invite our friends and neighbors to stop in and visit our newest facility.
