Jerry Allen “Al” Hager, 47 years old, of Winfield, died Tuesday, November 18, 2009, after a long illness.

Al was a Supervisor with American Electric Power. He was a member of the Sycamore Grove Baptist Church, Griffithsville Masonic Lodge # 71 A.F. & A.M., 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, Charleston; St. Albans Moose Lodge # 868, and the West Virginia Deer Farmers Association.

Al served his country for 22 years in the Air Force and the Air National Guard, Charleston. He joined the WV Air National Guard on May 5th, 1980 and went to Basic Training at Lackland AFB Texas, on June 6th, 1980. After 4 years in the WVANG, he joined the Air Force full time and was stationed at McChord AFB in Washington, Clark AB in the Philippines and Travis AFB in California. After completing 4 years of active duty he rejoined the WV Air National Guard and worked there until his retirement on Sept. 11, 2002. He was activated and deployed for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-1991 and was deployed on numerous volunteer assignments throughout the remainder of his career. He was awarded several medal including the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with 1 device to name a few.

Al is survived by his wife Sherry Fugate Hager, children; Cody Allen Hager attending WVU, Kayla Michelle Hager of Hurricane, Todd Kimbler and his son, Brody, of Winfield, and Ashley Kimbler, and her daughter, Harley Hager, of Winfield; parents Jerry and Anita Hager of Alkol, sister; Kathy Echols of Bancroft, brothers; Tucker Hager of Philadelphia, PA and Roger Hager of Griffithsville, WV.

Funeral services will be held at Chapman Funeral Home, 3624 Winfield Rd, Winfield, Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 12 noon with Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon prior to the funeral.

Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 111, Hamlin, and Masonic Rites will be provided by Griffithsville Masonic Lodge # 71, at the burial in the Hager Family Cemetery, Alkol.
