|Lee Westly Hilderbrand, 86 of Taylorsville, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Lee retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1982 where he had worked for 33 years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of WWII serving from 1944 to 1946, he was stationed in San Diego, California and served in the Pacific Operations.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, fast pitch soft ball, feeding and watching birds, working in his yard and garden and spending time with his family.
He was one of the founders of the German Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born in Bartholomew County, December 17, 1925, the son of George Alvy and Daisy Bell Anderson Hilderbrand.
He married Barbara Ann Barkes September 24, 1948 at Taylorsville Methodist Parsonage. She preceded him in death May 26, 2004.
Survivors include his children LeAnn (Mike) Turner of Columbus, Alan D. (Candy) Hilderbrand of Otisco and V. Diane Wendel of Franklin; grandchildren, Tanya (Tom) Frazier of Chattanooga, TN, Jeff Turner of Columbus, Christopher (Candena) Wendel of Greenwood and Rebekah (James) Kilpatrick of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren Ashlee Frazier, Jacob Frazier, Shelby Turner, Seth Kilpatrick and Asher Wendel, great great grandchildren Lannah Marie and Hunter Storm Roberts and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Russell, Ervie “Dick”, Jesse, Ray, Roy and Ralph Hilderbrand; sisters Flossie Cox, Mary Hodapp, Minnebell Pittman and Georgia Hilderbrand.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Garland Brook Cemetery with Pastor David Blystone officiating.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
