| | | Jack Christie, 81 (affectionately known by family and close friends as “Bob”), passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 5th at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, September 4th. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa.
Jack was born on October 29, 1927, to Irma (Kelso) and Ira “Jack” Christie in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent most of his career working for the City of Des Moines Parks Department and retired in 1994.
He was a dedicated public servant, serving as a long-time mayor of the City of Collins and active in Democratic politics. He loved nothing more than being in the great outdoors. He was passionate about fishing and hunting and always on the lookout for the elusive Morel mushroom. He passed this love down to his children and grandchildren.
Jack will be missed by his wife, Gloria; sons: David (Tami), Dan, Herk (Nicole), Jay (Kesha) and daughters: Sue Sheeler and Mary Lou (Rick) Denton; grandchildren: Aaron (Stacey) Denton, Amy (Wil) O’Tool, Angy Denton, Tyler Christie, Mackenzee Christie, Brittany Sheeler, Bryce Christie, Alexa Christie, Clair Pfantz, Brooke Christie and Drew Christie; great grandchildren: Jesse Polson, Breanna and Cooper O’Tool, Kolby Sabin and Robbie Houchen.
Memorial contributions may be given to the City of Collins Fire and Rescue or Parks Department.
