| | | Mary O’Mara, 87. died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 2nd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. Visitation will be at 12:30 with a Rosary Service at 1:30 PM at the church.
Mary was born at Newton, Iowa on November 17, 1921, the daughter of Cornelius Edward and Jessie (Mickle) Ross. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and obtained an Accounting Degree from AIB in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Mike O’Mara on February 8, 1944 at Colfax, Iowa. He preceded her in death July 16, 2008.Mary was a homemaker and a Mary Kay Consultant for 18 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Nevada; a Bible Study Group and St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society. She loved her grandchildren; enjoyed playing bridge, loved music, singing, sewing, and gardening. She taught school, took time off to raise her family, and then taught again for many years. She was a grateful, loving person.
Survivors include four sons: Michael J. O’Mara of Duluth, Minnesota; Patrick O’Mara of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; John (Anne) O’Mara of McCook Lake, South Dakota; Jerry O’Mara of Nevada, Iowa; two daughters: Mary Margaret (Wade) Krieg of Des Moines, Iowa; Lori (Rick) McQuiston of Maxwell, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers: Tom Ross of Marshalltown, Iowa; Pat Ross of Bondurant, Iowa; Bill Ross of Bondurant, Iowa; one sister: Lorraine Ross of Hardy, Arkansas.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Mike.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
