| | | Evelyn Josephine Hanson Larson died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Services will be held at 10:30 AM ,Thursday, April 9th at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, April 8th at Palestine Lutheran with burial at the Palestine Cemetery.
Evelyn was born September 4, 1917, in Garfield Township near Clark, SD, the daughter of Sigurd and Christine (Kloster) Hanson. She was baptized in Clark Center Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Crocker Luther Church in Crocker, SD. She attended the rural schools and one year of high school in Thorp, then attended Clark High School for her sophomore year. She then came to Iowa in 1935 to help take care of elderly relatives and graduated from Alleman High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Larson February 20, 1940, at the Palestine Lutheran Church parsonage. Reverend Jacobson officiated. They lived on the farm where Lawrence lived his entire life. Lawrence preceded her in death December 7, 1989.
Evelyn was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa. She was active in Ladies Aid and the quilting group. She was a charter member of the Second Milers Club.
She moved to Huxley August of 1991, and continued with the quilting projects of the church.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons: Virgil (Diane) Larson of Maxwell, IA.; Kenneth (Louise) Larson of Huxley, IA; two sisters: Helen Thompson of Mitchell, SD; Arlene Bird of Toronto, SD; three brothers: George Hanson of Clark, SD; Roy Hanson of Wilmington, DE; Lee Hanson of Minnetonka, MN; sister-in-law, Gloria Hanson of Littleton, CO; nine grandchildren: Brent (Michelle) Larson of Nevada, IA; Aaron (Nicole) Larson of Huxley, IA; Michael (Holly) Larson of Huxley, IA; Benjamin Larson of Temple, TX; Kendra (Josh) Rice of Cedar Rapids, IA; Shane (Julie) Larson of New York, NY; Cory (Amy) Larson of Huxley, IA; Andrew (Cally) Larson of Huxley, IA; Lori (Jim) Neumann of Scottsdale, AZ; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jacob, Zachary, Nickolas, Taylor, Maggie, Kasey, London, Annika, Colin, Abbie, Henry, Isaac and Whitney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Alvin; her parents; and two brothers: Alfred and Bernard.
