Anita Marie Uthe, 61, of Nevada, died Friday, February 13, at home.

Anita, daughter of Sylvester and Lila (Mortvedt) Uthe, was born November 6, 1947, in Ames, Iowa. A 1965 graduate of Ames High School, she earned a B.S. in advertising and design from Iowa State University in 1969. She worked for many years in advertising for Younkers in Des Moines.

Following her mother’s stroke in 2001, Anita moved to Nevada to reside with her parents to assist with her mother’s care.

She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny and was affiliated with St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. A member of the Ankeny Area Quilt Guild, Anita especially enjoyed decorating the church with banners and signs she designed. A special highlight was witnessing the October, 1979, visit of Pope John Paul II to Iowa.

She shared her artistic talent with others through her calligraphy, quilting, batik, painting, and ceramics. Entertaining her nieces and nephew was a particular joy for her.

Anita is survived by her mother Lila of Nevada, sisters Linda Uthe, Nevada, Marlene (Lyle) Borkowski, Manning, and Karen (Alan) Knaphus, McCallsburg; and brother Douglas (Sue) Uthe, Nevada; nieces Renee Uthe, Kari Borkowski, Amy Borkowski and nephew Ross Uthe.
Preceding Anita in death was her father Sylvester Uthe.
