NEVADA – Betty Jane Alexander, 86, of Nevada, died peacefully surrounded by family, Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Betty was born July 7, 1922 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of George and Lotta (Berka) Porter. After losing her mother at age four years, Betty was adopted by Mame and Bernice Soper and raised in Nevada, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Nevada, Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her husband of 66 years, Wes Alexander, and her children and grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wes, of Nevada, Iowa; two daughters: Jolene (Virgil) Buffington, Cindi (Dean) Dueland; five grandchildren: Joe Buffington, Andrea (Rodney) Peel, Toby (Heather) McCarter, Brooke Dueland, Teran Dueland; four great grandchildren: Jackson, Braxton, Jaeger, Teagan; and her brother: Gene Porter.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Ronald Porter.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Nevada First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Nevada.

The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
