When are funeral homes required by law to order a medical examination and/or autopsy? and could you please either tell me what statute it is or e-mail me a copy of the statute? Funeral Homes in the state of Illinois are not required to order a medical examination and/or autopsy. If a person expires without being seen by a physician within 30 days, the Medical Examiner or Coroner will be notified of the death. The Medical Examiner or Coroner will determine the necessity of a medical examination or autopsy. Each state has different laws governing their Coroner/Medical Examiner programs. I hope this helps. |
