Gerald “Gary” King, age 65, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating.

Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 11, from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Gerald “Gary” Eugene King was born on July 27, 1944, in Onawa, Iowa. He was the son of Francis Willard and Arline Lavada (Gibson) King. He lived most of his youth in Sheldon, Iowa, where he attended school and graduated from the Sheldon High School, in 1962. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1962 to 1965, attaining the rank of L/CPL. He served in the United States Army National Guard from February 2, 1980 to June 15, 2001,when he retired, attaining the rank of E7.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Rensink of Sioux Center, Iowa, on July 24, 1964, in Sioux Center, Iowa. They lived in Sheldon, where Gary attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School for Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration, and graduated in 1971. He worked for the City of Sheldon until 2006, when he retired.
Gary and Marilyn enjoyed camping, barbecuing, gardening, bird and squirrel watching, bowling, following the Iowa Hawkeye’s and Minnesota Vikings, and especially spending time with family. Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman. When he was younger, he drove a stock car, #35, at the Rock Rapids Speedway.
Gary passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Marilyn; his daughters and sons-in-law: Kay Lynn and Alan Ver Steeg of Rock Valley, IA, and daughter: Courtney and husband Mike Rus of Rock Valley, IA; Melissa Jo and George Davis of Sheldon, IA, and children: Anthony Davis, Crystal Davis, and Salina Davis; Michelle Beth and Dave Groen of Sheldon, IA, and children: Cody Mayer, Trevor Mayer, Isaac Mayer, Daniel Groen, of Sheldon, IA, Prairie and husband Matt Sievert of Cedar Rapids, IA; six sisters: Colleen Holtrop of Worthington, MN, Elaine and James Ver Meer of Boyden, IA, Sandra and Bill Hegna of Madrid, IA, Karin and Peter Vanden Berg of Sheldon, IA, Deborah and Dennis Shatto of Schuyler, NE, Sheila and Charles Lienau of Palmyra, NE.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Caitlin Davis; his parents and grandparents.
