| | | Dr. Earl E. Martin was born on June 12, 1925, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Earl James and Gertrude Marguerite (Leighton) Martin. He lived his youth in Fort Dodge, where he attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Community Schools. Shortly following his graduation from high school, Earl, proudly served his country during World War II, in the United States Army. During his time of service, he received training as a medic and dental technician and also rifle and heavy weapons technician. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Earl attended, and graduated from, the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He practiced for a short time in Webster City, Iowa. He then attended the Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following his graduation, he practiced in Lamoni, Iowa, for a short time and then moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. In 1963, he moved to Sheldon, Iowa, where he continued his chiropractic profession.
He was united in marriage to Janus Marilyn Hammer of Ringstead, Iowa, on June 23, 1957, in Ringstead.
Dr. Martin was a very active member of the Kiwanis Club and received an honor of perfect attendance for more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sheldon and the American Legion. He was also a member of several professional organizations during his career.
He enjoyed woodcarving, painting, playing chess, genealogy, water related activities, family vacations and spending time with his family.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Janus, of 51 years; his children: Earl Brent Martin of White Bear Lake, MN, Troy Jonathan and wife Janice Martin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ross LeRoy and wife Juliet Martin of Dubuque, IA, Dan Leslie and wife Rochelle Martin of Naperville, IL, Jalayne Joy Martin of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren: Blake, Brooke and Monique; one sister: Luella Adeline Egli of Manson, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Leona Vivian Bever.
