| | | Gertrude”Gert” DeGroot was born on September 2, 1916, in Sanborn, Iowa. She was the daughter of Richard and Florence (Elgersma) Sipma. She lived her youth in Melvin, Iowa, where she attended the Melvin Community School
She was united in marriage to George DeGroot of Ocheyedan, Iowa, in March of 1952, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. They lived on their farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa, until their retirement in 1979, when they moved into Ocheyedan. George passed away in September of 1992.
Gertrude was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, where she was active when she was able.
Gertrude passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008, at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son: George Richard DeGroot of Ocheyedan,IA; step-children: Donald DeGroot and his wife Dean of Battle Creek, MI, and Esther Ryken and her husband Pete of California; two brothers: Ray Sipma and his wife Catherine of Worthington, MN, and Andy Sipma and his wife Tillie of Sheldon,IA; two sisters: Elizabeth Vanress of Jennison, MI, and Mary Baker and her husband William of Door, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Florence, and son Randy.
