| | | Wilma E. ‘Jean’ Shields, 84, of Linton, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 10 2012, at her residence in Linton, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gambill, Sullivan, Co., on November 5, 1927, to Elvin and Edith (Strietelmeier) Rhodes. Jean married to James L. Shields on November 11, 1946 and they had three children. James preceded her on September 14, 2007.
Jean was a founder and co-owner of Shields Hardware and Supply. She truly loved serving and helping the customers at the Hardware Store, where she knew many of the customers by name and loved talking to them. Her greatest joy was her family, she loved gathering them together. She was admired and cherished by family and friends. Jean was also a member of the Qui-Va-La Club.
Survivors include two sons: Fred A. (Mary) Shields, James D. (Denise) Shields, both of Linton; one daughter: Janette E. (Bob) Evans of Linton; grandson: Levi (Tina) Shields of Bloomfield; great-grandson: Braxton Shields, companion Lester Irons of Mooresville.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James L. Shields; brother, Lloyd Rhodes; two sisters, Mary Weaver Weddle and Beulah Rhodes; two half-sisters, Faye Frye and Dorothy Luttrull; and one half-brother, Ray Rhodes.
The family has requested that, for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Dive Pirates Foundation, 70 West Thymewood Place, The Woodlands, TX 77382, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN, with Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday.
