Walter N. McPherson, 87, of 12049 Lick Run Rd., Newcomerstown, O., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, in his residence.
He was born Nov. 4, 1921, at Newcomerstown, O., a son of the late Celia A. (Booth) McPherson and the late Walter H. McPherson.
He was a 1940 graduate of Newcomerstown High School. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army Air Force from Jan. 13, 1942, until Dec. 6, 1946. He retired Jan. 3, 1987, from the Ohio Department of Transportation after 29 years.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and American Legion ? Thomas C. Montgomery 431. An avid ham radio operator for over 60 years, his call sign was W8ZKF. He was a photographer and raised and loved many animals.
Surviving is his spouse, Karen (Rice) McPherson whom he married April 27, 1997.
He was preceded in death by his spouses, Joann L. (Farrar) McPherson and Maxie Eileen (Maynard) McPherson.
Survivors include one son, Charles McPherson and wife Donna of Largo, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah Mathews and husband John of Sherman, Texas; daughter-in-law, Shirley McPherson of Roanoke, Texas; four stepsons, Richard Roe, D.C., of Newcomerstown, Raymond Roe and wife Kathi of Newcomerstown, Robert Roe and wife Cindi of Stranton, Texas, Randall Roe of Cincinnati; one stepdaughter, Ellen Hooker and husband Richard of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren, John Dan McPherson, Eric Mathews, Shawn Mathews, Eric Willis, Nicole Rusnak, Howard Barthalow, Mike Barthalow, Josh Roe, Anthony Roe and Seth Roe; one great-grandson, Kamdyn Rusnak; and favorite friends, Leroy IV and Kitty Kitty.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Jasper McPherson; one brother, John McPherson; one sister, Ed'ee McJunkin.
Memorial services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2009, beginning at 3 p.m. with Pastor James Taggart.
Visitation will be held in Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
