| | | Gerald E. Swigert, 76, of 560 Railroad St., Newcomerstown, O., died Friday, March 13, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover, O.
He was born March 5, 1933, at Newcomerstown, O., to the late Helen L. (Moore) Maple and the late Ernest Swigert. He retired from the United States Marine Corps after 20 years and was a staff Sergeant.
Surviving are his companion, Maxine Berger; stepchildren, Mary Ann Lambes, Donald Berger (Marge), Tom Berger (Tina), all of Newcomerstown, John Berger (Beverly) of Houston, O., Pam Hogan (Greg) of Arkansas, Billy Berger of Caldwell; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; Special Niece Sue Landis (Ron) of Newcomerstown and many nieces and nephews; three sisters, Ruth E. Abel (John) of Canton, Beverly Jean Payne (Warren) of Blue Bell, Penn., Jo Ann Swigert; three brothers, William Swigert of Glenburnie, Md., Dale Swigert (Judy) of Snyder, Texas; Robert Swigert (Pat) of Dundack, Md.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Raymond Swigert.
Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Russell Ham officiating. Burial will be in Everal's Cemetery, Newcomerstown, O. Visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Monday, March 16, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Military Services will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
