| | | Anthony J. "Tony" Saggio, 81, of 1110 E. State Rd., Newcomerstown, O., formerly of West Lafayette, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in Coshocton County Memorial Hospital at Coshocton, O.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927, at Dennison, O., to the late Victoria (Fantin) Saggio and the late Chris Saggio.
He was a 1945 Dennison High School graduate and served his country in the U.S. Army's Occupational Troops in Germany after World War II. He retired as Block Operator for Pennsylvania Railroad after 40 years. He was a member of West Lafayette United Methodist Church. He served on numerous committees for West Lafayette United Methodist Church. Most recently he was affiliated with Cavalry Methodist Church in Newcomerstown. He was a lifelong avid Cleveland Indians fan. He enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and satellite radio. In his younger days, he was an accomplished roller skater and that is where he met his wife, Pauline.
On Aug. 18, 1951, he married V. Polly (Willer) Saggio, who survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond Saggio and wife Becky and Robert Saggio and wife Janice, all of Columbus; sister-in-law, Gloria Saggio of Powell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Shirley Kirkpatrick of West Lafayette; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special niece, Tammy Jo Kirkpatrick of West Lafayette; and Aunt Rose Fonte of Canton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis R. Saggio and Chris Saggio Jr.
Services will be held in Addy Funeral Home at Newcomerstown on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, beginning at 2 p.m. Rev. Chauncey Eggan will officiate. Burial will take place in Fairfield Cemetery at West Lafayette, O. Visitation will be held in Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
