| | | Walter F. “Jack” Hickman, 91, formerly of 360 Neighbor St., Newcomerstown, O., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Riverside Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Newcomerstown.
He was born Aug. 16, 1917, at Byesville, O., a son of the late Howard and Bessie (Mullen) Hickman. A 1935 graduate of Byesville High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, particularly in Guam. He retired from Heller Brothers Co. at Newcomerstown after 44 years.
An active member of First Baptist Church of Newcomerstown, he enjoyed gardening and hunting with his beagle dogs and was an active member of the local beagle club for many years.
On Dec. 31, 1939, he married Helen (Booth) Hickman, who died Dec. 3, 2003, after they had been married for 63 years.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Hickman of Quaker City and Don Hickman and wife, Maria, of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandsons, Whit, Daniel, Robert and Eric.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Dorsey, Julia Ann Moore and Goldie Hull.
Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. in Addy Funeral Home at Newcomerstown with Rev. LuAnne Youngman officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown. Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
