| | | Loudonville - Charles Yund Roche, 91, was blessed with a peaceful passing surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Born in Troy, N.Y. July 10, 1918 to Alfred E. Roche, a graduate of RPI and former public official of Troy, and Laura Yund Roche of Amster-dam, a graduate of Trinity in Washington, D.C. Charles was the beloved husband of Esther Egleston Roche. He was a lifelong resident of the Collar City, and was a graduate of Albany Academy and the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation, Charles was employed at the Internal Revenue Service in Albany before joining the Albany Certified Public Accounting firm of Ball George as a partner. He later joined Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company where he was responsible for bank audits throughout the Northeast. He subsequently joined the New York State Teachers Retirement System as controller and retired in 1982. Mr. Roche was a member of the National Association of Bank Auditors and Controllers and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy for over 85 years and recently became a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Latham. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Esther Egleston Roche; his loving sons and daughters-in-law: Art and Mary Roche of Croton on the Hudson, Bob and Mary Ann Roche of Long Lake, Jim and Melanie Roche of Rochester and Jeff Roche of Schodack. He was the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren: Chris, Jon, David and his wife Johanna, Michael, Ashley, Elizabeth, Sarah and Katherine Roche. He was predeceased by a brother, Louis (Marilyn) Roche and Virginia (Albert) Selling and is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Dad was a lifelong friend and lover for Mom. Even though he spent years traveling to all ends of the world, he most loved to be at home with his family. Art and Bob fondly remember long rides to Cape Cod in a jam-packed station wagon and U-Haul trailer and those Saturdays when Dad had to work and he would sneak them into the office to "help" with the opening the envelopes. Jeff and Jim remember having Dad as their personal travel guide as they watched slideshows of Mom and Dad's world travels. Always in our hearts we will remember Dad and the love, guidance and life values he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He was a truly gentle and loving man and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 9:00 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke, pastor and Rev. John Yanus, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Interment will follow in St. Jean's Cemetery in Troy. Friends and relatives are invited and may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Lions Eye Bank of Albany, 6 Executive Park Drive, Albany, NY 12203 and specify your contribution for eye research, or the Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave., Troy, NY 12180.
