MR. CLAYTON WALLACE TREFRY
Former member of Saugus Town Meeting & Board of Selectmen

SAUGUS – Mr. Clayton Wallace Trefry, 90 years, died on Friday, October 23rd at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was the husband of Helen (Poole) Cashen Trefry & the late Barbara (Stone) Trefry.

Born in Everett on March 7, 1919, he was the son of Wellsford & Edna (Cameron) Trefry. He moved to Saugus when just a few weeks old and was a graduate of Saugus High School, class of 1936. After high school he was employed as an apprentice in a local machine shop, L.E. Stone Co. In 1944 he married Barbara Stone, daughter of the owner. In the same year he was drafted into the service and spent ten months in the U.S. Navy overseas in the Philippines. Barbara and Clayton had two children, Susan C. Trefry of Salem, NH and Jonathan S. Trefry of VT. In 1974, he became the owner of L.E. Stone Co. In 1991 he married Helen (Poole) Cashen Trefry who is mother to Robert Cashen, Jr. of NH and Jane DeSimone of CT. Clayton is survived by 8 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Marjorie Spofford of Saugus & the late Wellsford Trefry.

Clayton’s public service of over 40 years started when his children were in school and he became President of the Armitage School PTA. In 1964 he was elected to the Board of Selectmen. Prior to this he was a Town Meeting Member and in 1981 he became Moderator, serving until 1997. Clayton was an active member of the Saugus Republican Town Committee, serving several years as Chairman. In 1997 he was honored to be selected as Saugus Man of the Year. He was also an active member of the Cliftondale Congregational Church and taught Sunday School for 12 years. He also served as Church Moderator for 20 years.

SERVICE INFORMATION
A memorial service will be held in the Cliftondale Congregational Church, 50 Essex. St., SAUGUS on Saturday at 11 a.m. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Saugus. Arrangements by the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., Saugus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Cliftondale Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 50 Essex St., Saugus, MA 01906.
