Ralph Klaas Haverkamp

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Ralph Klaas Haverkamp, 68, passed away on May 7, 2005.
Born December 30, 1936, in Middenmeer, The Netherlands to Aldert and Simentje (Winter) Haverkamp, Ralph spent his childhood and his young adult years in Holland. He completed 14 years of schooling and served two years in the Dutch army before embarking on his adventure to America.
In September 1960, Ralph, 24, arrived in the United States, speaking no English, and worked on a farm near Lakefield, Minnesota for one years. One year later, he met Lois Fransen, and they were married in the Worthington Christian Reformed Church on July 12, 1962. They moved to Sibley, Iowa and remained there. Soon after, he bought a small dairy distribution business that sold Wells’ Blue Bunny dairy products and he created Ralph’s Dairy. Though it grew into a retail business, he still just called himself a milkman. He sold this business in 2004.
Ralph was a faithful member of the Sibley Christian Reformed Church where he served in many capacities, including Deacon and Elder. He served for many years as President of the Board at Country View Manor and was proud to be a volunteer firefighter. He was always willing to work and help others. He loved to travel and returned to his homeland to visit 12 times.
Diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma Cancer in his spine and ribs on March 31, 2005, He suffered severe pain for 5 weeks until he entered Heaven’s rest on May 7, 2005.
He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Lois; two daughters and husbands, Tami (Tim) Terlouw, of St. Louis, MO; Renae (Jake) Bradley, of Joliet, IL; and one son and wife, Brent (Tori) Haverkamp, of Ames, IA; and 7 grandchildren. His brothers and wives, Klaas (Rennie) Haverkamp and Bert (Pia) Haverkamp, and eight nieces and nephews remain in Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister,
Ida Pols.
