| | | Myrna J. Griffioen, age 80, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Kevin Muyskens officiating.
Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2009, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Myrna Jean Griffioen was born on April 26, 1929, in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Jennie (Reekers) Kleinwolterink. She lived her youth in rural Sheldon, and attended the Sheldon Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School.
She was united in marriage to Willis “Bill” E. Griffioen of Sheldon, Iowa, on June 30, 1949, at her home in rural Sheldon. They lived in Sheldon where they owned and operated Bill’s Electric. Myrna assisted Bill with the business and raised the family. In the summer of 1981, they sold their electrical business and moved to Alamo, Texas, where they were activity directors. For nine years they enjoyed traveling and RVing. They were campground managers in Ben Brooke, Texas, Stockton Lake, Missouri, and Chesapeake Bay in Lusby, Maryland. In 2004, they moved back to Sheldon to the Christian Retirement Home.
Myrna enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was a dedicated, caring, and loving wife. A patient teacher and loving mother to her seven children.
She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Myrna passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 60 years: Bill Griffioen of Sheldon, IA; her children: Karen and Cliff Wynia of Sibley, IA, Larry and Vicki Griffioen of Sioux Center, IA, Barbara and Henry Fisher of Sibley, IA, Ruth and Preston Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA, Edwin and Arlene Griffioen of Sheldon, IA, John and Sandy Griffioen of Sioux Center, IA, Donna Niichel of Lee Summit, MO; honorary daughter and son-in-law: Eileen (DeYoung) and Paul Groeneweg of Outlook, WA; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother: Jack and wife Nell Kleinwolterink of Sheldon, IA; one sister: Johanna Hofmeyer of Sheldon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant great-granddaughters; one sister: Marie Vanden Brink; three brothers: Robert, Gerrit and Arthur Kleinwolterink.
